The Transitional Phase (Previous Bachelor's Degree + Qualifying Master's Degree)

The reform aims to simplify access to regulated professions by aligning the degree examination with the state examination, thereby streamlining and accelerating graduates' entry into the job market. The certified completion of the internal practical-evaluative internship within the new study programs will be a prerequisite for accessing the degree examination, through which students will obtain both their academic title and qualification title after passing a practical test.

Law No. 163/2021 also includes transitional provisions specifically for those obtaining (or who have obtained) a degree in psychology under the previous educational system.

The main issue is to enable a student who has acquired or is acquiring the L-24 three-year degree under the previous educational framework to enter the new qualifying Master's degree with all the requirements set by the Ministry.

During this transitional phase, in complying with the provisions dictated by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), Italian universities have had to make specific academic decisions to allow their students to complete their studies with the required qualifications.

In the case of the University of Florence:

All those who hold a L-24 three-year degree under the previous educational system (non-qualifying) and wish to enroll in the qualifying Master's degree LM-51 (which has replaced the previous non-qualifying LM programs) must acquire 10 ECTS credits in internship activities or activities recognized as professionalizing.

Depending on the phase of their academic career (A or B) in which the student decides to complete the required 10 ECTS credits in professionalizing activities, they must choose a specific method to address the requirement:

  1. Students enrolled in the L-24 three-year degree under the previous educational system (enrolled from the academic year 2017/18 to the academic year 2022/23) who acquire the 10 ECTS credits in professionalizing activities before completing their three-year degree;

  2. Students enrolled in the L-24 three-year degree under the previous educational system who do not acquire the 10 ECTS credits in professionalizing activities during their three-year degree.
